Terrain Management System™
It is Ford Technology that allows you to easily switch on the fly to one of the seven selectable Driving Modes in the Ford Explorer® SUV to adapt to the terrain you are driving on: Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Trail, and when equipped, Deep Snow/Sand.
Always consult the Owner's Manual before driving on off-road surfaces. Additionally, study the terrain and its difficulties, and use appropriate safety equipment.
Sport
When selected, automatic 4x4 activates for better traction on the road while holding gears longer, resulting in increased throttle response and more precise shifting.
Tow/Haul
Helps reduce the number of transmission shifts when towing a trailer in congested traffic or on slight hills.
Eco
Monitors driving characteristics, then adjusts engine and transmission performance to maximize fuel efficiency.
Trail
When this mode is selected, it locks 4WD and stays in lower gears longer to minimize shifting; The throttle is softened to minimize response.
Slippery
Controls throttle response to reduce acceleration, plus regulates shift points for confident handling.
Deep Snow/Sand
Selecting this mode activates automatic 4x4, which reduces throttle response and holds gears longer to optimize shift points and engine torque.
